A happy day to you all! If you weren't aware already, this is Best Creations week with Helmar. Best Creations has some super adorable paper lines out! My favorite part about their papers is the glitter and shimmer. That little extra sparkle is so much fun to play with, but then again I'm a girl that is easily distracted by bright shiny objects! I thought that their Robot paper would make for some fun gift wrapping for the upcoming Father's Day. I wouldn't call it masculine, but I like to think there is a little boy in all our men who still love robots and rocket ships!

Using Best Creations Robot papers, Helmar Zap Dots and 450 Quick Dry, I whipped up this fun gift set trio. For the gift bag, I simply took a plain dollar store gift bag and added a strip of patterned paper and they layered it with a cut out journaling block and a fussy cut rocket, both of which I adhered with Zap Dots.

The card measures 5.5" x 5.5", with the inner block of blue at 5" x 5". I did some fussy cutting here to trim out the gears that I then turned into something like award ribbons. The center of the gears are custom epoxy shapes using the same Robot paper and an Epiphany Crafts Studio Tool. For the card I again used Helmar's 450 Quick Dry and a large Zap Dot on the center ribbon.

Lastly I used my Cricut and the Tags, Bags, & Boxes cartridge to cut out this cute little popcorn bag that I glued together with Helmar 450 Quick Dry. There's nothing worse in crafting than to have to sit there for ten minutes holding your project together while it dries. With the 450 Quick Dry, I only have to hold the folds of my bag together for less than a minute and then I can move on. To decorate the bag, again I did more fussy cutting and used a popsicle stick to make a decorative pick. I used mini Helmar Zap Dots for the heart (which I doubled up on as you can see below) and gear, as well as the planet and rocket.

These are the little touches I love to do to make gift giving special! It could be the simplest gift in the world, but by adding a little creativity, love, and some fabulous glues, you can give something ordinary and make it extraordinary! I fell in love with this months Bits & Bobs kit called "Little Red Riding Hood" and had so much fun with it! I was only able to get done two layouts due to a sick child, but I still have a lot of material left over to make some more projects! Here are my two layouts...
Virtual friends are really nice, but I really love my real life friends and one of the things we like to do when we get together is play good ole' fashioned board games. It's been on all our minds to make it a monthly ritual to have a game party for grown ups with cocktails and appetizers. I can't wait to show them what I'm about to show you. Using Paper Trunk's Rockabilly paper collection and Helmar adhesives, I created some game night invitations, drink markers (the "who's drink is this" game gets tiring! haha!), and a pair of huge wooden die. I plan on using the big wood dice as a way to determine what game we play and the player who rolls the highest number will get to choose the first game. I hope you think about having a game night of your own, they can be a real blast!! Games Rock :)
Thanks for stopping by! I'm so excited to share my happy news that I've been sitting on for the past week. There are some wonderful things coming in May, so stay tuned =)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7361245280861276453.post-12672925088241634242011-04-14T08:43:00.000-07:002011-04-14T08:43:07.184-07:00My Core’dinations Creative FrenzyWell hello again blogger land! Have you heard that Core'dinations Cardstock is having a design team call? I'm sure you've picked it up on the grapevine though as I've spied many great blogs with submission posts. I'm taking my chances and hoping and wishing with my eye's pinched shut that I'll make this team! Core'dinations cardstock is just so amazing and I certainly have been a very busy crafty bee and the title of this post explains it all! Seriously, you should see my scrap space right now, there's obviously been some frenzied activity in there and I have my black pants covered in sanded paper dust to prove it too! I love working with my stash of Core'dinations cardstock, it's so versatile and sturdy and so much fun to emboss and die cut. I think my favorite would have to be the whitewash cardstock, or maybe it's just because it's Spring now and it feels so fresh to me. Either way, I'm so happy to share with you all my submission work for the Core'dinations design team call.

For this first layout, please forgive me for all the close up pics. I loved how this one turned out and I just couldn't pick which close ups I liked best. I used whitewash and chocolate box cardstocks on this project and used my cuttlebug to emboss with the small polka dot pattern and then of course did some sanding. The patterned paper, rub-ons, and stickers I used here are from the Basic Grey Nook and Pantry line.
Paper Trunk's older lines called "Gigi". When I was surfing through my papers I
immediately stopped at Gigi because it was a perfect match for the soft sky
blues in the photos I was working with. These pics were taken on one of the
many shores of the Puget Sound. It was a perfect match and I thought it
lended a bit of a nautical feel, especially when I added some handmade paper
beads.

The flowers are
take my Helmar acid free glue, trace around the flowers, then lay down some
twine. Since the glue dries so nice and clear I didn't have to worry too much
about my glue lines and if they were a bit messy.

Sometimes I like to take a break from creating layouts and do something different like an altered project. Recently I've been wanting to get back into reading. I use to be able to tear through a novel in just a couple days, it was something I really enjoyed, but for some reason (maybe due to parenting and being consumed with everything crafty) I've let that joy slide out of my life. So to get me in the mood to pick up a book I decided I'd make myself a cute little bookmark. I used some Jillibean Soup and Pink Paislee patterned paper, Core'dinations cardstock, Paper Trunk alpha stickers, a Pink Paislee brad, an eyelet and some ribbon. You'll also need some paint, plain chipboard, an xacto knife, and some strong glue like Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

First, cut two pieces of your chipboard the same size. I made mine 2"x6" and also cut a strip of patterned paper the same size.

Next, cut circle out of the center of your patterned paper. Allign it over one of your chipboard pieces and trace the circle with a pencil. Then using an xacto knife, cut out circle from the chipboard.

Cut a circle of coordinating patterned paper and glue it to the bottom piece of chipboard. Glue your other piece of patterned paper to the top piece of chipboard (the one with the hole you just cut out) Use a glue like Helmar's Quick Dry Adhesive. It has a super strong bond and drys fast so you can keep working! Now you can glue your two sides of chipboard together to form a double layered bookmark. This will give you some extra dimension as you'll see in a moment.

The next step I took was to cover the backside of my bookmark. I had a scrap of core'dinations cardstock that I had already embossed and sanded. I had it lying around from a previous project and wanted to use it except it wasn't the color I wanted. So I pulled out some paint and changed my paper to a green I liked. I also discovered a new tip and use for your old dryer sheets. They make great throw away painting tools. It's super easy and almost like a dry brush technique. All you do is wad up your dryer sheet, dip it in the paint, and then rub it on and voila you have a custom colored accent or cardstock! So from now on I have a jar that I'm statshing all my used dryer sheets in. They make for great cleanup and fast work!

Okay, now flip your bookmark over and use some of the same paint to dry brush around the circle to give your design a punch of color. Because there are two layers of chipboard here, it gives you some extra dimension making the circle reset a bit. When the paint is dry you can add your alpha sticers. I used Paper Trunk's "Benny" alphas. For a little fun element I used a brad from Pink Paislee to replace the "o" in the word "spot". I didn't want the prongs to show on the back of my bookmark, so I snipped them off and used my Helmar 450 Quick Dry again to glue down my brad.

Next, I cut out this cute little owl and used a Helmar Zapdot on the back to give it a little lift as it sat in the recessed circle of the bookmark.

Then I just finished it all off with an eyelet punched and set at the top and a ribbon tied on. I also used one of Jillibean Soup's corrugated letters to add my initial on the back with a touch of matching green paint.

I was not one of the lucky ones chosen this time, but by golly I'll keep trying. I just love MLS, so now I'll take the opportunity to share what I created for their design team call. Perhaps when this time comes around again next year I'll be able to create with some of their current lines. All I had left were scraps from some of their older collections, but I made them work and really like how they turned out. Thanks for stopping by and congrats again to the new team!!
I've actually had quite a few projects that I'd love to share, but haven't been able to quite yet. I also think that facebooking and blog hopping has taken up way too much of my time lately! Anywho, I just had to come on here and brag a little about my latest super score. My sister works at a lovely spice shop and they happend to have all these great glass jars, normally used for spices, that they needed to get rid of. Well, good 'ol sis was thinking me (thanks again sis!!) and snagged a bunch of boxes of these wonderful gems. I was so tickled!! I got three whole boxes full! After running them through the dishwasher, it didn't take me long to figure out what to stash in them. I decided to organize my ribbons and flowers by color. Now it's so much easier to find what I need instead of surfing through a big ziploc bag full of ribbon scraps. Plus it just looks so darn pretty! What a score I tell ya and it made me a happy girl!
It was a great crop with games and some timed challenges. For the rest of the challenges, everyone was given until today to finish as many as they could. Let me tell ya, there were some great challenges posted that got you thinking of all sorts of great ideas! I wish I could have done them all, but there was no way to fit them all in. These are the ones I was able to complete though.
I can't believe I was awake at four am on this Saturday morning! I laid in bed until five, hoping that I could go back to sleep, but my creative side was itching to get the day started. I couldn't stop thinking about all the projects I want to get done and all the things I have done that I'd like to share. My studio at the moment is a total scraptastrophie!! I think I've been scrapping non-stop (with the exception of basic needs and child rearing) for over a week now! I can't seem to stop myself. I'm sure my poor hubby is missing me! Now that our recent move is behind us and I've been reacquainted with all my scrap goodies, I've dived in head first into as much as I can and I'm loving every minute of it! My heart has truly missed my passion for paper and glue and I'm making up for about eight months of lost time! Anyhow, I wanted to share a few of the things that I've been up to.

Next up is another layout I did for a manufacturer's challenge. This one is for Crate Paper's March Color Challenge. The color challenge was to only use yellow, gray, and kraft on your layout with the exception of some white and black thrown in. You also had to use at least 50% Crate Paper products. I used materials from their Brook Collection. I really loved this color combo and the way my layout came together.
Well, one of the presents she received was a little girl's jewelry box. It was a darling gift and very cute. However, and I hope the giver won't be too mad at me, it was a bit outdated and I thought that I could dress it up a bit and give it a more updated look. Here is what I did just using some sand paper, Mod Podge, and patterned paper from Crate Paper's Paper Doll collection.
This month designing for Paper Trunk, our team has the honor of getting to work with some of Wendy Hammer's fantastic felt embellishment designs! I chose to work with Paper Trunk's Jellybean line as Spring is almost upon us and the cheerful colors just make me smile. I don't know about you, but I can't wait for some warmer weather and brighter days. Speaking of days, make sure you remember that next weekend is Daylight Savings. Yippee, longer days for more scrapping!! I chose to create two projects with Paper Trunk and Wendy Hammer, a two page layout and a card, both done with the Jellybean collection. Make sure to check out Wendy's etsy shop here. And to see more Paper Trunk goodness, check out the blog!
I love this guy, but what do you get a 25 year old dude for his birthday, especially when you have no money? Bread, that's what! I've been playing around with this new bread recipe book called Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day. It's a wonderful book if any of you are interested. Anyhow, we were sort of short of funds so I thought I'd just bake him a loaf of bread cause what guy doesn't love food, right?! I didn't want to just give him a boring old loaf of bread though, so I decided to dress it up and make it a little more special and call it Happy Tasty Bread Day! This crumbs for you (hyuck, hyuck, hyuck), Happy Birthday Garrett!!
You wouldn't believe the crazy coaster ride my family has been on. It was nauseating and I'm so thankful to be back on solid ground again! To give you a better understanding and to explain my circumstances in a nutshell, my husband was honorably discharged from the Navy this past June, however it was not by choice. It left us in a lurch not knowing what do with ourselves as we were not prepared for civilian freedom quite so soon. God works in mysterious ways though and it was meant to be whether we understood it or not, or even liked it. We decided to take a leap of faith and follow my hubby's dream of going to film school. His father's side of the family just so happened to live in the Bay Area near a prominent film school. So it was off to California to live with my in-laws. This was in July. Film school, living in California, and living with parents, turned out to be more than we bargained for and before long it started tearing our little family apart. It was decided then that we best not waste anymore time in this short lifespan and head towards someplace better suited for us. We then turned our hearts back home to where both my husband and I grew up and met in High School in Oregon. We packed up a U-haul and drove back home on New Year's Eve. It was a fourteen hour drive and we didn't get in till 11:30pm December 31st, but it was so worth it to get to spend New Years back in Oregon. It has been twelve years since we moved away to live our lives serving the Navy, and man does it sure feel good to be back!! Finally to be home again, it's like dipping cold toes in a nice warm foot bath, ahhhhhhh, that sure hits the spot!! Now that we are settling in to our new home, my creative spark is resurfacing I am ending this nearly eight month long scrapbooking hiatus! Hallelujah I'm back on the craft wagon again!! So there you have it, an explanation for my unbelievably long absence. Thanks so much for waiting for me and I look forward to sharing with you all again!!
I can't believe I haven't posted a single thing on my blog in over six months!!! I'm not going to go into detail about having to explain how my family and I have moved twice in the last six months, but I'm trying to get back in the groove now. My crafting space is almost back together again and I'm getting reacquainted with my favorite manufacturer's blogs. I came across Prima's post from today and decided to share it on my blog as well, but actually you know as well as I do that if you re-post Prima's original blog post on your own blog that you can be entered to win some beautiful Prima products!! Since I could use some fresh products to play with to get my creative juices flowing again why not share the love!..........
I have one more fabulous thing to celebrate with everyone...My husband has finally been discharged from the Navy and we are officially civillians! Hip, hip, hooray!! To honor this glorious moment in our lives, I of course had to create a layout to preserve the memory of the day my husband came home and took off that uniform for the very last time! Here's a little sneak of it, but to see more and read my post, head over to Paper Trunk's blog.
