Congrats To The New 2011 My Little Shoebox Team!

I want to extend my congratulations and kudo's to all the wonderfully talented ladies that made the new 2011 design team for My Little Shoebox.  I was not one of the lucky ones chosen this time, but by golly I'll keep trying.  I just love MLS, so now I'll take the opportunity to share what I created for their design team call.  Perhaps when this time comes around again next year I'll be able to create with some of their current lines.  All I had left were scraps from some of their older collections, but I made them work and really like how they turned out.  Thanks for stopping by and congrats again to the new team!!

This is a chore chart I made for my little girl.  The flowers stick perfectly to the strips of felt.

Super Score!!

It seems as though I've been most lacking in my blogging skills this past week or so.  I've actually had quite a few projects that I'd love to share, but haven't been able to quite yet.  I also think that facebooking and blog hopping has taken up way too much of my time lately!  Anywho, I just had to come on here and brag a little about my latest super score.  My sister works at a lovely spice shop and they happend to have all these great glass jars, normally used for spices, that they needed to get rid of.  Well, good 'ol sis was thinking me (thanks again sis!!) and snagged a bunch of boxes of these wonderful gems.  I was so tickled!!  I got three whole boxes full! After running them through the dishwasher, it didn't take me long to figure out what to stash in them.  I decided to organize my ribbons and flowers by color.  Now it's so much easier to find what I need instead of surfing through a big ziploc bag full of ribbon scraps.  Plus it just looks so darn pretty!  What a score I tell ya and it made me a happy girl!

Jenni Bowlin's Be Our Guest Crop

So did any of you fine scrapper's out there join in on Jenni Bowlin's online crop last weekend?  It was a great crop with games and some timed challenges.  For the rest of the challenges, everyone was given until today to finish as many as they could.  Let me tell ya, there were some great challenges posted that got you thinking of all sorts of great ideas!  I wish I could have done them all, but there was no way to fit them all in.  These are the ones I was able to complete though.

Jenni Bowlin, DCWV, Paper Trunk.
I did this layout for the timed challenge that kicked off the crop.  We only had an hour to complete a layout and had to incorporate a favorite quote.  This was a real challenge for me since I am usually a very slow scrapper and like to take my time.  I totally freaked out and my hands shook trying to work faster than I was used to, but I managed to get it done even though the paint on my rose was still wet and I had to staple it to my layout, hahaha.

DCWV, Core'dinations, Jenni Bowlin.
The next timed challenge was to create a card with something dangling and you also only had an hour for this one.  I actually had less time since I woke up late and the challenge had been started on east coast time.  I had fun with it though, and it was a good way to get the creative juices flowing first thing in the morning.

Next up are the layouts I did for the challenges that we were given until today to complete.
Celeste's Sketch Challenge.  My Little Shoebox, American Crafts, Jenni Bowlin.

Becky's Photo Challenge : use as many photos as you can.  Jillibean Soup, Basic Grey, and My Little Shoebox, Tim Holtz, America Crafts.

I really wish I could have done more of the challenges, but I'll be sure to hold onto those extra challenges as jumpstarts for my next layouts.  Thanks to Jenni Bowlin and  her design team for hosting such a wonderful online crop!!

Can't Sleep, Must Scrap...

Good morning world!  I can't believe I was awake at  four am on this Saturday morning!  I laid in bed until five, hoping that I could go back to sleep, but my creative side was itching to get the day started.  I couldn't stop thinking about all the projects I want to get done and all the things I have done that I'd like to share. My studio at the moment is a total scraptastrophie!!  I think I've been scrapping non-stop (with the exception of basic needs and child rearing) for over a week now!  I can't seem to stop myself.  I'm sure my poor hubby is missing me!  Now that our recent move is behind us and I've been reacquainted with all my scrap goodies, I've dived in head first into as much as I can and I'm loving every minute of it!  My heart has truly missed my passion for paper and glue and I'm making up for about eight months of lost time!  Anyhow, I wanted to share a few of the things that I've been up to.

Cosmo Cricket

This first one is for Cosmo Cricket based on this sketch from their blog with a chance of getting published in Scrapbook Trends. Eeek, that's exciting isn't it!! I chose to scrap an old photo of my Grandmother Alice.  I love the vintage look of the photo, but since it wasn't an original I felt free to scrap with it and even write on the photo with a slick writer.

Sketch1
I chose to turn this sketch around a bit.

This is Cosmo Cricket's Material Girl collection and it is so darn cute.  I used crackle paint on my torn edges for that extra vintage appeal.

The clear buttons went well with the theme without stealing the show from this adorable chipboard.

Dress It Up

So this past August we celebrated our daughter's 4th birthday. Well, one of the presents she received was a little girl's jewelry box. It was a darling gift and very cute. However, and I hope the giver won't be too mad at me, it was a bit outdated and I thought that I could dress it up a bit and give it a more updated look. Here is what I did just using some sand paper, Mod Podge, and patterned paper from Crate Paper's Paper Doll collection.

 The Original Jewelry Box.

The jewelery box had a varnish finish on it, so I needed to sand it down to help the Mod Podge and paper adhere better.

Once I had measured all sides of the box and cut my papers to size, it was time to lay down the Mod Podge. First apply a thin layer, lay down your paper, clear out any air bubbles and then apply another thin coat of Mod Podge on top.

To help me cut the paper to size for my mirror top, I used the clear plastic packaging from my chipboard pieces to trace with a slick writer and make myself a template for my patterned paper.

After all the papers were in place, I marked the center of my drawers and then hot glued my drawer pulls on. I used tapestry beads topped with a gem for my drawer pulls.

Next apply your chipboard pieces and I also added a string of pearl trim.

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope I was able to give someone else a great idea to treat their little girl to!

Jellybean Goodness

Good morning and happy TGIF!  This month designing for Paper Trunk, our team has the honor of getting to work with some of Wendy Hammer's fantastic felt embellishment designs! I chose to work with Paper Trunk's Jellybean line as Spring is almost upon us and the cheerful colors just make me smile. I don't know about you, but I can't wait for some warmer weather and brighter days. Speaking of days, make sure you remember that next weekend is Daylight Savings. Yippee, longer days for more scrapping!!  I chose to create two projects with Paper Trunk and Wendy Hammer,  a two page layout and a card, both done with the Jellybean collection. Make sure to check out Wendy's etsy shop here.  And to see more Paper Trunk goodness, check out the blog!

Happy Bread-Day!

This past weekend was my little brother-in-law's 25th birthday.  I love this guy, but what do you get a 25 year old dude for his birthday, especially when you have no money?  Bread, that's what!  I've been playing around with this new bread recipe book called Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day.  It's a wonderful book if any of you are interested.  Anyhow, we were sort of short of funds so I thought I'd just bake him a loaf of bread cause what guy doesn't love food, right?!  I didn't want to just give him a boring old loaf of bread though, so I decided to dress it up and make it a little more special and call it Happy Tasty Bread Day!  This crumbs for you (hyuck, hyuck, hyuck), Happy Birthday Garrett!!

My wonderful bread banner was created using Basic Grey's Nook & Pantry collection
and Jillibean Soup's corrugated letters.
